CFPL Blog

I work at the Camden Free Public Library and I created this blog as a place to post announcements, notes, ideas, suggestions or comments for CFPL.

Blog for Reference suggestion

I'm trying to start a blog for the Reference Dept. where we can keep Notes, Numbers, Links & Ideas maybe even who's in and who's out for the day. Rather than having PostIt Notes all over our desks & computer screens. That sometimes it's so many we can't tell the old notes from the new ones.
It's kind of like a Yellow-Pad where we keep our notes, but instead of everyone having their own notepad where we don't know what the other person has on his notes, it'll be one Blog Shared by everybody in Reference.
It can be accessed easily by all of us from any computer with internet. We can even post stuff we forgot to tell the other staff before we left. I think it would make it easy if we all cooperate on this. Like the 3 Musketeers, "One for All and All for One!"

Great idea, Frankie! Should we use your blog as our reference blog or set up a "reference post" on the new blog? Either one works for me. I just think we need to get into the routine of checking out the blog for posts or responses at specific times each day; for example, we could check at the beginning of our shifts, at midday and at the end of our shifts. We should schedule another brief meeting for ref personnal at some point in the next week or so to be sure that we're all on the same page.

Yes, that's part of my routine. When I come in, I check my e-mail, the library's e-mail. Then I log on to my del.icio.us account just in case I run into a good site worth bookmarking while surfing. While loged on to del.icio.us, I can use the “Post to Delicious” button at anytime to bookmark whatever I run into. Then I check the CFPL-Forum Blog and on a whole bunch of other blogs I read on about libraries. However, I don't go one by one wasting time to see if they have any new posts or not. I log on to Bloglines and any of the blogs that I've subscribed to, if they have new post I get them all aggregated for me all in one spot. Remember the Web 2.0 class, "Subscribe with Bloglines" toolbar button? I can help you if you need a quick refreshing on Bloglines and Delicious.
